Itinerary
The journey begins with a scenic drive from Rishikesh to Sankri, the base camp for the trek. This is a long but beautiful road trip, taking you through winding mountain roads and offering views of rivers, forests, and small villages. Upon arrival in Sankri, you will check into a guesthouse or hotel and have time to rest and explore the charming village, preparing for the days ahead.
After breakfast, you will begin the first day of the trek. The trail from Sankri to Juda-ka-Talab is a moderate ascent, taking you through dense pine and maple forests. You will trek along a stream and cross a few bridges. The day's destination is a beautiful high-altitude lake, Juda-ka-Talab, which is a serene and picturesque campsite. You will set up camp and spend the night by the lake.
Today's trek is a shorter but steeper climb. You will leave the campsite and ascend through thick forests, eventually reaching an open meadow. This is the Kedarkantha Base Camp. From here, you get your first breathtaking views of the surrounding snow-capped peaks. This is where you will rest and prepare for the summit climb the next day.
This is the main summit day and the most challenging part of the trek. You will start very early, often before dawn, to reach the peak in time for a stunning sunrise. The ascent is steep, especially in the winter snow. At the summit, you will be rewarded with a 360-degree panoramic view of the Himalayan ranges. After spending time at the peak, you will descend to Kedarkantha Base Camp for a quick lunch before continuing the descent to the Hargaon campsite for the night.
Today's activity is a descent from Hargaon back to Sankri. The trail is well-defined and offers beautiful views of the Har Ki Dun Valley. You will trek through more scenic forests, gradually making your way back to the base village. Upon reaching Sankri, you can relax and reflect on your trekking adventure.
The final day of the trip involves the long drive back from Sankri to Rishikesh, concluding the trek. This is a day for travel, enjoying the last views of the mountains as you head back.
