Chopta Mandal Bird Watching

The journey begins with a long and scenic drive from Rishikesh to Chopta, which takes approximately 5 to 6 hours. The route takes you through the stunning landscapes of Uttarakhand, transitioning from the holy town of Rishikesh into the high-altitude Himalayan region. Upon arrival in Chopta, which is part of the Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary, you will check into your eco-lodge or camp. The evening is free to relax and prepare for the next day's birding adventure.

This is a full day dedicated to guided bird watching in and around the Chopta region. The area is known for its lush oak and deodar forests and is a haven for over 251 species of birds. Your guide will lead you through various trails, where you can search for some of the region's most iconic species. This is your best chance to spot the stunning Himalayan Monal, as well as raptors like the Golden Eagle and Himalayan Griffon, and other unique birds such as the Spotted Dove, Little Forktail, and Snow Pigeon. The day is designed for photography and enjoying the "stunning Himalayan landscapes."

After a final morning birding session in Chopta, you will descend to Mandal. This journey offers a change in altitude and a different forest type, which can provide opportunities to spot new bird species. Mandal is a village that offers a glimpse into the everyday life of local communities. You will spend the evening relaxing at a local eco-lodge and enjoying some delicious, farm-fresh organic food as highlighted in the trip details.

On the final day of the trip, you will begin your return journey from Mandal. The long drive back to Rishikesh concludes your birding adventure in the Himalayas.
